Holiday Programmes
Our holiday provisions are innovative and highly engaging, designed to deliver enhanced learning and fun through experiential learning. Our workshops, trips and residentials improve the skills and self-esteem of individuals, their abilities in groups, and provide a safe space to make new friends.
The YAA Summer Programme has clear objectives:
Encouraging the formation of new friendships
Building confidence and self-esteem
Improving mental health and overall well-being
Promoting healthier lifestyles
Providing opportunities to learn new skills and knowledge
Summer 2025
During the holidays, we brought young people on an incredible range of activities designed to inspire, challenge and connect.
From a week-long farm residential and sailing adventure, to a gliding experience, a West End trip to see Hamilton and a professional make-up workshop with Charlotte Tilbury, no two days looked the same.
Young people cared for animals and harvested crops, learned practical sailing and driving skills, tackled climbing walls and high ropes courses, took part in wakeboarding and obstacle challenges, explored photography, theatre and visual arts, and gained hands-on experience of careers through workshops and wellbeing sessions. They also strengthened their teamwork through problem-solving challenges, sports activities and interactive games, while celebrating together at residentials, cultural trips and our annual summer BBQ.

Stepping out of her comfort zone: AS’s journey with YAA
AS first heard about YAA through friends and the summer programme outreach at her school. She decided to join through the summer programme with one clear goal: to push herself out of her comfort zone and try new things.
-
Over the summer, AS got involved in a wide range of activities, including Be Gripped, Thorpe Lakes and Laser Tag. One experience stood out in particular: snowboarding. It was something she’d never tried before but was really curious about.
Along with nine other young people, AS took part in a two‑day Snowcamp First Tracks course. As well as learning snowboarding skills, the programme focused on building confidence, independence and responsibility. Being alongside young people from other groups also gave AS the chance to meet new people and socialise outside her usual circle.
The early start and challenging slopes were tough at first, and AS, like others, felt hesitant. With encouragement from staff and instructors, her confidence quickly grew. By the afternoon of the first day, she was excited to get back on the slopes and keen to practise what she’d learned.
At the end of the course, AS completed the programme and received an accredited Snowsport England Snow Life Award, along with a medal and certificate - a real moment of achievement.
“To be honest, I didn’t know what to expect, but I’d love to do this again. I could see myself getting better and better, it was actually so fun!”
AS’s confidence continued to grow after the course. At YAA’s end‑of‑summer BBQ, she joined in activities like karaoke and jewellery making, made new friends, and surprised staff by asking whether there were more snowboarding opportunities available. This was a big moment for AS, who would usually only take part if her sister was involved.
YAA staff followed this up and secured funding for AS to join a progressive snowboarding graduate programme, which started in the autumn. Feedback from the programme manager has been extremely positive, describing her participation as “brilliant” and highlighting her enthusiasm and natural ability.
AS’s journey shows how giving young people the chance to try something new in a supportive environment can unlock confidence, independence and ambition they may not have known they had.
